Fruit Juice Diet: Does it Work?
Every single person who I coach in my NYC office or on the phone often asks me about the option of starting a fruit juice diet. They’re eager to find out the quickest route to achieve their weight loss goals as they have already heard about the amazing results that it provides. Every single year the results convince me that juice fasting is the most beneficial thing that anyone can do if they want to improve their health and overall well-being, as well as being one of the fastest ways to realise their weight loss goals. Juice fasting alone, however, is something that can cause problems.
The truth is that while there are many health benefits to fruit, it does contain a large amount of natural sugars and is best when are eaten whole with their fibres intact. Juice fasting is powerful simply because when you elect to juice a fruit or a vegetable you remove the bulk, or the fibre, from the part of the plant that offers nutritional benefit. You will then only ingest the nutritive part, the part that actually contains all of the necessary nutrients that you need. This will enable your body to receive all of the necessary fuel it needs without having to spend a great deal of energy breaking it down. This energy will then be saved for cleansing.
The main advice I give to my clients, therefore, is to include a rainbow variety of different juices within their fast. This will ensure that all of your nutritional requirements are being fully taken care of and you will be left with all the energy you need for the day and then some. While a fruit such as an apple can provide a great base for many juices, if you consume apple juice alone it will spike your blood sugar. What goes up must come down and your blood sugar will then drop shortly after leaving you with less energy than you originally had. This isn’t the effect that we want when going on a juice fast.
If you want to juice fruit, that’s fine, just make sure to add greens like kale, spinach or watercress as greens help the sugars absorb into your system slowly preventing those unwanted spikes in blood sugar and energy fluctuation.
Consider this following recipe if you want to share in my breakthrough fasting guide at www.breakthroughfasting.com.
Kate’s Green Dragon.
One or 2 green apples (or, if you prefer, any variety)
2 stalks celery
1/2 cucumber
3 handfuls of spinach or 2 handfuls of kale
1/2-1 lemon to taste (I like mine sour)
By combining other vegetables into the mix, especially the green ones, you’re preventing those blood sugar spikes and keeping your energy stable during your cleanse. Plus you’re flooding your body with a wide variety of nutrition enabling it to work harder at getting you clean, radiantly healthy and (last but certainly not least!) thin from the inside out!
