To quote Mark Twain, “Quitting smoking is easy. I’ve done it a thousand times.” before I go into any detail of how to quit smoking easy let me quickly remind you of why you want to quit smoking in the first place. I shall summarise as follows. “Smoking will kill you before your time”, Fact!, excuse the brevity but that is the long and short of it, anyway if you are reading this odds are you know all about the effects of smoking and have resolved to quit smoking, and are just looking for the best way, if so congratulations! you have just found the best way.

To properly understand how to quit smoking easy you must first have some knowledge of how smoking is addictive in the first place.

Nicotine is a drug found naturally in tobacco. It is as addictive as heroin or cocaine. Over time, a person becomes physically and emotionally addicted to nicotine. Studies have shown that smokers must deal with both the physical and psychological (mental) dependence to quit and stay quit.

How nicotine gets in, where it goes, and how long it stays

When you inhale the smoke from a cigarette, nicotine is carried into your lungs. There to be quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and carried throughout your body. Nicotine affects many parts of the body, including your heart and blood vessels, your hormones, the way your body uses food (your metabolism), and your brain. Nicotine can be found in breast milk and even in mucus from the cervix of a female smoker. During pregnancy, nicotine freely crosses the placenta and has been found in amniotic fluid and the umbilical cord blood of newborn infants along with a host of other toxins I might add, but within the realm of this article we are more interested in what happens when the nicotine in the blood crosses into the brain intact. (please bear with me as it all comes to bear).

Nicotine causes pleasant feelings that make the smoker want to smoke more. It also acts as a kind of depressant by interfering with the flow of information between nerve cells. It also stimulates the D2 pleasure receptors in the brain which in turn increase the levels of dopamine and serotonin in the brain these are the brains own reward system, increasing production when we do something that deserves reward, and certainly not intended for abuse by outside stimuli like cigarettes of junk food ( but that is another story)

Like any drug after a while, the smoker develops a tolerance to the nicotine. this tolerance means that it takes more nicotine to get the highs in consequence the smoker smokes more and becomes more and more addicted.

When smokers try to cut back or quit, the lack of nicotine leads to withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal is both physical and mental. Physically, the body reacts to the absence of nicotine. Mentally, the smoker is faced with giving up a habit that they enjoy (which is in truth the addiction), which calls for a major change in behavior. Both the physical and mental factors must be addressed for the quitting process to work.

Those who have smoked regularly for a few months or longer, and suddenly stop using tobacco or greatly reduce the amount smoked, will have withdrawal symptoms. Symptoms usually start within a few hours of the last cigarette and peak about 2 to 3 days later when most of the nicotine and its by-products are out of the body. Withdrawal symptoms can last for up to several weeks. They will however get easier to cope with every day that you stay smoke-free.

These symptoms are quite severe as they are not only physical but psychological as well and may last initially for 2 to three weeks. (as I am sure many of you will know)

This following method of how to quit smoking fast, is time tested and proven and is the very same method we use at our resort to treat many forms of addiction most far stronger than nicotine. it is free and easy and does not involve gum, patches or make believe cigarettes, which cost a fortune and simply prolong the addiction.

How do we quit smoking easy ?

Firstly we have the preparation which is absolutely essential “fail to prepare, prepare to fail” and never more true with a serious addiction like smoking, it is so important to prepare the mind for what is to come, which in turn will prepare the body, this is an article not a book so I must aggressively summarise:

The preparation MUST start at least three weeks before the date set to QUIT, that date must be written down as though set in stone, and placed somewhere where it can be seen constantly, write 21 post it notes 21 days to quit, 20 days to quit, 19 day… so on so forth.every day peel one off, write down all the reasons why you NEED to quit, every day peel off a new post it and think about what is to come, it is important to think of “the date” as the first day of the rest of your life. never once consider the thought of failure!!

The Day Arrives

This may sound a little drastic, but it absolutely works, and considering we are talking about you very life here!. For 36 hours you will take no food only bottled water!, this has the effect of starting a cleansing process in the body and nicotine being a deadly toxin will be high on the list, as no food and therefore no toxins are being ingested the body will quickly go into a detox mode scouring the body for toxins and free radicals that run free damaging every healthy cell they cross.

The effect of this is that the nicotine will be eliminated from the body within 24 to 36 hours maximum, without this fasting period this may take up to 2 weeks!. this period of fasting is a triple edged sword not only will it eliminate the nicotine very quickly, it will remove all the habits associated with smoking, smoking after a meal or a beverage of any kind, thirdly and very importantly you will have won the first battle of will against your subconscious, you will find your cravings for a cigarette are simply overpowered by your cravings to eat, which is a very powerful survival instinct.

After the 36 hours why not carry on and change your life by extending the detox and eliminate up to 70% of the toxins and free radicals from your body within just 10 days you really will look and feel so much better, and lose a load of weight as a bonus (most people add weight after they quit smoking).

Important notes if during the preparation period anything very stressful should happen in your life then cancel the date, and try again in a few months, it is very important that you do not start then fail, every tim you do this your subconcious has won over your will making any future attempt more difficult.

As a quick incentive take your resting pulse over a minute before you quit smoking then every couple of days after.. You will see.
