Acne causes much embarrassment to teen-agers and young adults as this is the age when they start to get conscious about their looks. Other than that, it is not a considered a health problem.
What Causes Acne?
Hormones are responsible for acne conditions of the skin. There comes an age when one’s sebaceous glands produce much sebum owing to the stimulation of the increased secretion of androgens. This increased sebum production is attested to by the fact that acne seems to appear mainly during a person’s adolescence or when one goes through the phase of transformation of his or her mental state and physical appearance. As too much sebum is produced, pimples appear as a result of the fatty acids contained in sebum. Generally, sebum acts as the skin’s protection against bacteria and parasites. When acne appears, it means the activity of the afflicted’s sebaceous glands are not within normal range.
Psychological factors also play a big role in the production of acne. Strong emotions are characteristic of the adolescence phase. In periods of strong emotions, there is an increased release of androgen hormones caused by the imbalance in the ratio of the pitituary, hypothalamic, and adrenal cortex.
Acne is also blamed on poor nutrition and chronic constipation. Any excess in the following – sugars and starches, fats and fried foods, tea, coffee, alcohol, and tobacco, can also cause acne. Where constipation is concerned, due to the improper functioning of the intestines, the body retains much toxic wastes that aggravate the acne problem. There Are Natural Remedies for Acne:
