Some Reasons To Go For Yoga Teacher Training
Getting in shape is a concept that has taken root in a great many places. All over the world, more and more people are utilizing different means to achieve this goal. Some people choose to train with weights. Others enjoy courses or classes in different martial arts disciplines. Receiving yoga teacher training may be a way to incorporate many aspects of getting in shape into a single, profitable practice.
What many people don’t realize is that the philosophies of yoginis have been around for hundreds and thousands of years. Many of the practices were passed down through generations. Entire societies and religions have been based around some of them. Thus, it was probably inexorable that these philosophies and practices would eventually spread.
From their Indian origins, yoginis and their practices have spread across the globe and passed through yoga teacher training. While people travel, ideas will always accompany them. Spiritual beliefs, cultural norms, and ideas about beauty are carried like cultural luggage. Ideas about how to stay healthy, and what to eat are other notions that are automatically carried by the traveler.
But, when one is considering the yogic traditions, the spread of these ideas beyond India was purposefully executed. It is said that many practitioners and students were mandated with ‘spreading the messages’ to different peoples. One such messenger was Swami Vivekananda, who gave a marvelously moving speech in Chicago. In 1893, he was a guest speaker at the World Parliament of Religions. The impact and power of that speech has been referenced in some circles ever since.
Many people view Swami Vivekananda as a pioneer of the ideas and teachings of India. However, foreigners often proved to be instrumental in spreading the teachings outside of that country. One of these was a man named Theos Bernard who became a student after traveling to India from America. He ended up publishing a book on his personal journey when he returned and further disseminated awareness.
According to some, a man named Richard Hittleman was a huge contributing factor to the popularization of yogic practices outside India. In 1956, he came back to New York from studying in India, and he decided to change the way the practices were taught. In order to make them more accepted by the mainstream, he shifted the focus from spiritual to physical betterment. The result of this choice was cataclysmic.
By focusing on the physical benefits of the practices, he was able to garner much more attention and interest. He intended that through the physical practices, more people would be drawn to find out more about the spiritual aspects. He used this approach throughout the 1950′s and helped pave the way for yogic practitioners to flourish throughout the 1960′s and beyond.
Today, the choices of practices and philosophies and yoga schools seems limitless. Those interested in becoming more spiritually, mentally, and physically healthy are often drawn to them. Eventually, some people are moved to learn to teach, and so impart some of what they experience to others. If you are interested in this as a possibility, yoga teacher training could be the perfect fit for you.
