The Reason Behind Acne Scars
Acne is a constant worry, particularly for teenage girls, as it appears all of a sudden and its scars stay long after the acne is gone. Howsoever you hate it, acne is a part of most teenagers’ lives and a fair amount of effort should be put in fighting these ugly bumps and preventing their recurrence.
Acne is caused due to a reaction between bacteria and sebum released by the glands present in skin, leading to an infection. During the healing process of this infection, a fibrous protein called collagen is formed. If collagen goes beyond normal levels, it causes a swelling, and if it is below normal, it causes small depressions on the surface of the skin. Both these situations cause acne scars. Teenagers are generally the worst affected from acne as the hormone levels increase during puberty causing more sebum secretion.
Some of the usual reasons that result in an acne infection include intake of medicines, regular use of oral contraceptives, using beauty products that are not suited to the skin type and hereditary reasons. Various other reasons such as mental tension, unhealthy food habits, and even pollution can result in acne. However, there is no conclusive proof behind the common myth that acne is caused by oily food.
Irrespective of the range of herbal skin-care products that claim to heal acne and that are offered to consumers at different stores, it is advisable to get a doctor’s opinion if the condition worsens or if it happens repeatedly. Avoiding squeezing the lesion or poking it with any sharp object is a must to avoid aggravation of acne.
A growing number of people are also resorting to cosmetic treatments to get rid of acne scars and to get back a spotless skin. Along with surgery and laser treatment that are among the most effective cures in making acne scars go away, there are numerous other new therapies too. You must visit a good dermatologist who would be able to identify your type of skin and suggest a proper treatment.
