postheadericon The Various Side Effects Of Caffeine On The Body

It is hard to break a habit. And even if we don’t want to admit it, coffee intake can be a bad habit if taken excessively. Coffee can be just as delicious as chocolate and almost as addicting as cigarettes. The big problem with coffee is caffeine. When the body develops a resistance to caffeine, most people will generally take in more and more coffee until they feel the caffeine high again. This can be detrimental to our health, since large intake of caffeine can result in insomnia or the jitters.

Coffee is not really a dangerous drug, but you will experience very bad withdrawal symptoms if you force yourself to stop abruptly. One such withdrawal symptom that you will feel is migraine headaches. The headaches will occur like clockwork, almost 48 hours after you stop drinking coffee. Some other effects are light depression, anxiety, and fatigue. Though the withdrawal symptoms are bad, excessive intake of caffeine also have bad side effects. Here are some well-known side effects from excessive intake of coffee.

First and foremost, the number one side effect of caffeine on the body is addiction. Caffeine is known to be an addictive substance. Our body will crave the caffeine high that coffee brings us. If we do not satiate this craving then we will feel irritable and tired.

Contrary to popular belief, coffee can also cause diarrhea. Even though coffee is a liquid, it has diuretic effects that can cause diarrhea.

There are also cases where excessive caffeine intake can lead to panic attacks. Since caffeine reduces our fight and flight response into pure panic attacks with paranoid episodes.

Coffee will also trigger our body’s alertness. Since coffee can wake up the body and make it work to its full extent without any rest, the body will feel fatigued both emotionally and physically. The only way for you to reduce this is to drink coffee in moderation.

I am not advising you to totally quit drinking coffee. However, if you are planning to quit drinking coffee altogether, then I suggest that you take it one step at a time. For example, I do not suggest that you stop drinking coffee at once because you will experience withdrawal symptoms. Just take it easy on the coffee by slowly phasing it out of your daily habit.
